13 New Solar Projects will be Launched

13 New Solar Projects will be Launched, total 1.35GW in Xinjiang, China

News from CSPPLAZA

This is Great News that so many CSP power would be built in future, and this is signal that Energy worldwide is always changing & improved.

On July 4th, 2022, 《The development and Reform Commission of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region》 issued the notice on printing and distributing the list of the second batch of market-oriented grid connected new energy projects in the autonomous region in 2022 (see Annex).

This list includes 13 thermal storage solar thermal power generation projects with an installed capacity of up to 1.35gw! This seems to be releasing a strong signal that the configuration of photovoltaic + photothermal energy storage is expected to become the mainstream new energy power generation project scheme.

Solar Power catch the eye of worldwide:

It is understood that there are 49 power grid consumption projects included in the list, with a total of 30.47 million KW; There are 18 integrated source network load storage projects, with a total of 10.415 million KW. The total scale is 40.89gw (excluding energy storage and photothermal installation).

If the installed capacity of the regulated power supply (electrochemical energy storage and photothermal power generation) is added, the installed capacity of 6.9475 million KW needs to be added, including 1.35 million kw of photothermal power generation, accounting for 19.43% of the regulated power supply.

The proportion of 19.43% doesn’t sound high, but it is a very significant breakthrough for solar thermal power generation, which focuses on seeking a place in the project of scenery base.

More importantly, the vast majority of photovoltaic grid consumption projects have chosen the solar thermal storage scheme, accounting for more than electrochemical energy storage. Light and heat can be described as the first eye-catching among them!

The distribution and storage of wind power projects are all electrochemical energy storage, and the proportion of distribution and storage is almost more than 20%, some even more than 30%, and the duration is mostly 4 hours.

The distribution and storage methods of photovoltaic projects are divided into electrochemical energy storage and thermal storage photothermal. The proportion of photothermal energy storage is mostly about 11%, with a duration of 8 hours, and the proportion of electrochemical energy storage is about 25%, with a duration of 4 hours.

According to table 2, a total of 13 grid consumption projects adopt the configuration scheme of photovoltaic + thermal storage photovoltaic power generation, with a total scale of 12.15 million KW, a total installed capacity of 1.35 million KW, and a distribution and storage ratio of about 11%. Among them, the installed capacity of photovoltaic projects is mostly 900MW, and the installed capacity of photothermal projects is mostly 100MW + 8-hour heat storage.

Great significance

The economics of photovoltaic + electrochemical energy storage and photovoltaic + photothermal schemes are estimated.

The energy storage scale of 100000 kW / 400000 kwh is calculated according to the current cost of 1800 yuan / kWh of lithium battery energy storage system, and the one-time investment cost is estimated to be 400000 × 1800 = 720 million yuan. To build a 900000 kW photovoltaic project, it needs 90 ÷ 40 × 7.2 = 1.62 billion yuan of energy storage system investment.

The construction of a 100000 kW 8-hour energy storage (which has been significantly better than the 4-hour battery energy storage) solar thermal power generation project, with an estimated investment of 1.8 billion yuan, can be equipped with 900000 kW photovoltaic projects.

Based on the analysis above, Investors have shown a clear preference for the configuration scheme of photovoltaic + photothermal. This has never happened in the past history of light and heat.

It is trend that Clear Power would take more and more important role in future

New Energy Blowing to South Africa

New Energy Blowing to South Africa

From China Energy News

At the beginning of April, two breakthroughs were made in the field of green energy in Africa: first, Niger announced the investment and construction of its first wind farm and began to scale up the layout of clean energy; second, South Africa realized the grid connection of “photovoltaic + energy storage” microgrid and large-scale grid for the first time, and the development of green power industry has reached a new level.

Niger will build its first wind farm

According to African Power Magazine, PARC eolien de la Tarka, the first wind farm to be built in Niger, has a design installed capacity of 250000 kW and consists of 60 wind turbines. It will be located in tahua region in southern Niger. It will be approved to start construction as soon as next year and is expected to be connected to the grid in 2025.

The Ministry of oil, energy and renewable energy of Niger said that tahua region has abundant wind energy resources and can produce highly competitive clean electricity. After the PARC eolien de la Tarka project is put into operation, it is expected to increase Niger’s power generation capacity by more than 40%, create more than 500 jobs in the construction phase, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by more than 400000 tons per year.

In addition, Niger’s first wind farm can also export electricity to neighboring countries at competitive prices, further helping Niger to diversify its energy structure. It is reported that this wind farm is part of the West African power pool project (wapp), which aims to build a power network and establish a regional power market in West Africa through top-level design and necessary infrastructure construction.

According to Niger’s energy strategic plan, by 2030, 30% of the country’s electricity will come from renewable energy, and the installed capacity of local electricity will be increased by at least five times to 2million kW.

South Africa realizes microgrid grid connection for the first time

During the same period, the 1800kW installed solar power station and battery system in ikuruleni, the third largest city in South Africa, were connected to the grid, which is one of the largest microgrids in South Africa and the first time that the country has connected to the grid, which will greatly stabilize the local power generation capacity.

With the substantial reduction of renewable energy costs, the instability of the South African power grid and the continuous rise of electricity prices, large energy consumers began to prefer self generation, which greatly improved the return on investment of the “scenery + energy storage” microgrid. The owners who operate microgrid in South Africa can also sell excess power to large-scale power grids, which also drives the enthusiasm of microgrid investment and construction to a certain extent.

Benjamin attia, chief analyst of wood Mackenzie’s energy transformation practice, said that microgrid can not only reshape Africa’s energy future, but also provide a more sustainable way for the operation mode of utilities.

At present, more and more enterprises and institutions operating in Africa are seeking to establish self generating facilities to obtain more reliable electricity.
